Which is their best album or even song? Mine is Pinkerton.

i'd have to agree, the songs are modern, and quite enjoyable, no matter what people say, i still enjoy weezer, they just have a "zing" to them, and 'the greatest man that ever lived' has some great lyrics

Upon further listening, I have decided to put "The Red Album" just below "Pinkerton" on my rankings (see way long ago post). While there are songs that seem downright insulting to the intelligence and taste of Weezer fans ("Heart Songs", I'm looking at you), and Rivers has to get his ego in check, I actually enjoy this album somewhat. It's disappointing given the early reports on what they were planning to do with the experimentation of this album, but it's not nearly the disappointment that "Make Believe" was. And some of the experiments work quite well! I've grown to love "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived", and enjoy "Dreamin'" until the very ending. It's a little odd that Brian's contribution to the album came from a song he previously recorded for his side project, The Relationship. It's still not the space opera that Rivers always wanted, but there is reason for some optimism. Unless, of course, they get a swelled head about it (which they surely will).

well the thing with the album is that they originally declared it "experimental." when i heard this, the first thing that came to mind was, "hmmm sounds weird, maybe the album will be totally computerized or sound like an animal collective piece." But they were experimental in another way. Rather than just having the usual line up, the band members rotated and basically every has a song in which they sing, a great concept, because i practice the same idea in my "extremely poorly-put-together band, and weezer does a way better job of doing this that my friends and i.

truthfully i think that weezer has produced excelent albums, blue album, pinkerton (for some reason "tired of sex" is just such a great song), green album, and i really did like maladroit too, im glad they are still getting publicity (thanks MTV), but with all of the attension, i wish it were about something good, not to say the red album is bad (havent listened to it yet), but based on pork and beans, hmmmm...

The new album is dreck. Second strike in a row.

When I talk about this band with people, someone inevitably says that every one of their albums is worse than the one before it. And at first, I agree. Then, I remember that I actually really loved "Maladroit". Most people I know hate that CD. But that, in my opinion, was the only time they got experimental and it didn't turn out to be a disaster. Plus, it features the best guitar work of their entire catalogue.

I feel like the blue album is really the only one that is solid all the way through. The others have some great tunes but usually a lot of filler as well. I think the new album may be interesting for a week or two but will probably end up in the CD case gathering dust with most of my other Weezer albums. It must stink to write your classic defining album and it be your debut, leaving you to try in vain to top it for the rest of your days!

thats great, it kinda makes sense because pinkerton is pretty rough around the edges and a bit angry, great music though.

My friend was telling me about that album. The project failed (either because of the label or Rivers himself) and the frustration of that failure lead to "Pinkerton". Which is interesting. I guess.

yeah, the band has gone by the way side, and i just recently learned on a wikipedia entry that the origal idea for the second album was a space themed rock opera, on you tube you can search some songs, but they are just demos, if only they could release songs like that again, or maybe switch labels

Upon further listening (beyond the snippet you can get on MySpace), I think that "Pork and Beans" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Lyrical creativity on the level of an elementary school student. Droning music that's so unbelievably simple I could probably play it in an hour (with no guitar-playing experience). Esentially, Rivers Cuomo has protested his label telling him to write a poppy hit single...by writing a poppy hit single. Serioiusly, what the hell happened to this band?

I've given this a lot of thought. Here are my personal rankings:

5. Make Believe (yuck)
4. Green Album (decent singles)
3. Pinkerton (I haven't decided if it's experimental or just wasting time)
2. Maladroit (in my opinion, the most underrated Weezer album)
1. Blue Album (a pop classic)

As for "Pork and Beans", I'm very, very nervous that we're going to get crapped on with another Make Believe. And what is up with the bland lyrics coming out of Rivers Cuomo these days? He's lost any sense of irony or pithy humor or cleverness. It's all "here's how I feel exactly at this moment with no poetry to it." Isn't he an English major? From HARVARD no less?

Excellent question. Pinkerton and the blue album are both winners if you ask us. How could one possibly choose a best Weezer song? It depends on the mood. We're a little worried about the artwork on the new =W= album tho. Looks sucktastic.
