Our friends at mtvU launched a campaign in 2007 called Half of Us that is all about erasing the stigma around and raising awareness of mental health issues. They got the idea to focus on it when they saw research that nearly half of all college students reported they’d felt so depressed they couldn’t function during the school year.
Last year they had an Emmy-nominated public service campaign that featured testimonials from Pete Wentz, Mary J. Blige and Max Bemis of Say Anything. Just recently they launched a new one featuring Billy Corgan.
At the very least it’s a fascinating account of the effect of celebrity on his already somewhat different mind. While you’re on their site click on “Fight the Stigma” and send your senator and representative notes requesting funding for funding and insurance reforms around mental health.
